Make taking online payments easier with a Buy Button

During this season of giving, there is a way to make taking payments for goods or accepting donations online easier. Create a simple checkout experience by adding a Buy Button to provide convenience for your customer and potentially increase sales.

With the Converge omnicommerce platform, you can create a button for a website or a hyperlink that can be emailed or even added to a social media post. The button or link will take your customer to a secure payment page where they can pay with their method of their choice, including a credit card or digital wallet.

Key benefits

  • Simply generate a Buy Button code that you can copy and paste anywhere you are able to add HTML, with no advanced coding necessary.
  • Buttons/hyperlinks can be used outside your online store, including on blogs, ads, emails and social media.
  • Customize the Buy Button for your brand. Choose the format, font, colors and text, and have it automatically resize to fit all media types.

Requirements
To use the Buy Button feature, you will need to be approved for an internet processing account along with an API user account ID. Contact the Customer Service team to set up your API user account at 800-777-7240.

Getting started
Once you have the required internet processing account and API user ID, set up your Hosted Payment Page. This is the payment page your customers will see once they click on your button or link. The page enables your customer to input their card information and make a payment.

How to become friendly fraud resilient

A growing number of chargeback cases are brought by cardholders who initiate a dispute on a legitimate online charge and claim it’s fraudulent. This is known as first-party misuse or friendly fraud.

One-third of merchants globally said they have experienced friendly fraud, and having to handle them can negatively impact your bottom line. The estimated cost for a business to manage friendly fraud is $35 for every $100 in disputes, according to a recent Verifi white paper titled Sizing Up the Impact of CNP Fraud Disputes.*

According to the Verifi white paper, reasons people initiate a dispute on an online purchase that constitute friendly fraud can include the following.

  • They are confused by the transaction description or amount on their statement.
  • The cardholder is attempting to return goods outside your company’s return period.
  • The quality of the product received was not as expected.
  • They have buyer’s remorse.
  • They want to obtain free goods or services.

There are a number of ways to engage with your customers online in a way that can help lead to fewer disputes.

  • Provide clear online descriptions and photos of your products or services to avoid confusion.
  • Keep customers informed through the order-to-deliver process.
  • Use clear payment descriptors so customers recognize a transaction on their card statement.
  • Make cancellation and return policies clear and easy to find on your website.
  • Include “click to accept” with your cancellation policies before cardholders are able to check out on the website.
  • Obtain a CVV code from the payment card, and use multifactor authentication for account logins to be sure the cardholder and account holder are the rightful card owner.
  • Use an Address Verification Service (AVS). If the shipping address matches the address on file with their card issuer, there is a lower chance the cardholder didn’t receive the goods.
  • Avoid technical errors and follow card network regulations to help ensure both you and the customer have complete information about each e-commerce transaction.

In general, attentive customer service and clear communication can prevent chargebacks from happening. When customers that are dissatisfied with a purchase know they can easily get assistance from the business, they’re less likely to take their complaint straight to the card-issuing bank.

Survey highlights what drives small business owners

Small business owners are known for their resilience. Their ability to adapt, pivot and persevere in the face of challenges is a defining trait. At U.S. Bank, we wanted to understand more deeply the factors behind small business owners’ unique resilience as well as the challenges they are facing.

That is why we conducted a nationwide Small Business Owner research study: to pinpoint what motivates small business owners, how they’re feeling, where they’re experiencing challenges – and inform our role in supporting them through ongoing uncertainty and change.

Here’s what 1,000 of your peers said.

  • Beyond financials, small business owners are driven by their individual purpose and desire to serve others, with 95% stating autonomy as a key motivator for starting their business.
  • As responsibilities pile up, 83% of owners often feel short on time and resources, but many acknowledge that digital solutions and community connections can help address some of the challenges and stressors they face.
  • Still, with all they have to take into account, an impressive 87% are upbeat about their future as they find ways to stay optimistic, happy and resilient.
