Xenia Community Schools Foundation Announces 2020 Scholarships

Alyssia Echols is the recipient of the annual scholarship sponsored by the Xenia Community Schools Foundation!

The Foundation is a nonprofit organization operating in collaboration with and in support of the Xenia Community Schools. In addition to the scholarship, the Foundation awards $25,000.00 a year in classroom grants for special projects. The scholarship is funded with proceeds from the annual Xenia Community Schools Hall of Honor Dinner and Induction Ceremony.

Alyssia Echols has been active on Student Council, Student Athlete Advisory Committee, National Honor Society, HOSA, Blue Crew and Prom Committee. Alyssia is a four-year tri-athlete in Varsity Soccer, Varsity Cheer and Varsity Track. Her volunteer efforts have included work at First Fridays, One Bistro, a homeless shelter and “Baskets for Battle” with Student Council. Alyssia will major in nursing. Her goal is to earn a Master’s Degree in Nursing and to become a neonatal nurse. Her mother is TeEdika Echols.

The Foundation also administers funds for several other scholarships.

  1. John E. Meyer II Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is funded by the sponsor family through the Xenia Community Schools Foundation. This year the recipient is Jahnyse Jefferson. Jahnyse is the child of Joslyn Jefferson and plans to major in Nursing at Sinclair Community College

  2. Two Shirley J. Ellis and X*ACT Theater Scholarships were awarded. The scholarships were established to honor the memory of Shirley R. Ellis. It is awarded annually to one or more Xenia High School seniors, who will attend an institution of higher education and has/have participated in theater or attended theater classes.

    Lillian Calhoun is the daughter of Scott And Garilyn Calhoun. She plans to attend Miami University where she will major in Forensic Chemistry. Lily has been active in National Honor Society, theater productions, vocal ensemble, Cross Country and Chemistry Club.

    Anna Carlson is the daughter of Brian and Shannon Carlson. She has been active in Tennis, Swimming, musical theater, theater, peer facilitation and Renaissance. Her goals are to graduate from college and to create original music. Her college plans are undecided.

The Xenia Community Schools Foundation provides $1,000.00 in a scholarship to a graduating senior. Students interested in applying for the scholarship should follow the scholarship application process adopted by the Guidance Office at Xenia High School. The Foundation Scholarship Committee reviews the applications and make the final selection. The scholarship is traditionally announced at the annual awards assembly at Xenia High School. The awards assembly was cancelled this year and scholarship award letters were mailed to students.
