Mary Crockett WIB

Mary Crockett grew up in Southwest Ohio where she inherited a passion for housing and community development– particularly in historic districts – from her family’s Dayton real estate company.  In 2006 she accepted the position of Community Development Director for the City of Xenia, Ohio.  In 2012 she evolved into her current position as Community Development and Downtown Coordinator in a newly created Development Department for the City of Xenia, Ohio.

Mary loves bicycling and rollerblading, especially in the bicycle capital of the Midwest!  Long a supporter of the nation’s largest paved network and the benefits of an active outdoor lifestyle, she believes Xenia has the potential to be one of the finest small cities in Ohio in which to live, raise a family, retire, get an education, and enjoy small town values with world-class recreational and professional opportunities.  With that belief, she has been responsible for bringing and administering some $5 million in grant and private funding to the City of Xenia including CHIP housing grants, a Downtown Tier Two Comprehensive Revitalization grant, numerous CDBG allocation and special grants, a HUD HOPE VI-Main Street grant -- only one of which to be awarded nationally --  to the City of Xenia.  She recently worked to obtain an Historic Tax Credit Award, a first for Downtown Xenia.  With all of these grants and designations, she has concentrated her professional efforts on building partnerships and strengthening funding and programs to revitalize Xenia -- especially the Downtown Xenia core.  She believes the City of Xenia needs to believe in itself first - and the market will follow.  And the best place to build self-esteem for a community is through revitalization of its downtown.   While she has been able to be a part of many great accomplishments for Xenia, she is most proud of the volunteers and her co-workers from Xenia who prove again and again, that partnerships and shared vision create the best communities.  She is moved and humbled by the skills and passion of “just folks” who have risen to “move mountains” in Xenia, Ohio.  You know who you are!
