Mayor issues proclamation for Xenia Public Service Workers Credited with Saving Man’s Life

Two Xenia Public Service workers are being honored for their quick thinking and action, which medics say saved a man’s life.

On Tuesday, December 3, Bill Rogers and Bob Hughes, who are both Equipment Operators for Xenia Public Service, were running a sewer route on Lexington Avenue, when they saw a man lying in his driveway. “We slammed on the brakes and backed up,” Hughes said. When he and Rogers approached the man, Rogers said he “didn’t look right,” so they called 911 right away to get the man help. They discovered he had a head injury and gave the man first aid and comfort as they waited for medics to arrive. First responders are crediting the life-saving actions Rogers and Hughes took with saving the man’s life.

Upon learning of the events, Xenia Mayor Sarah Mays issued a proclamation to declare Wednesday, December 4th, 2019 as “Bill Rogers and Bob Hughes Day.” Mayor Mays asks that citizens, “join me in congratulating and honoring these hardworking men who were in the right place at the right time, who made the right decision to go above and beyond the call of duty.”

Rogers has been employed with the City of Xenia since July of 1996 while Hughes has been an employee since 2010.
