Houston Relief Effort
We are quickly planning a relief volunteer team to serve flooded families in Houston. Most of us will depart this Friday 9/8/17 and return Wednesday or Thursday 9/13/17.
Most of the work will involve coordinating with Local Churches, AIA Staff, GAIN inc. and Samaritan's Purse, to assist families with the removal of all the ruined debris in their homes.
Athletes In Action is coordinating a small team of 20-30 people that will be traveling to Houston, Texas to volunteer to serve flooded out families and the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts there. Eric Nelson, Director of AIA Global Sports Teams and the Xenia Sports Complex and Recreation Center, has close connections in the Houston, TX area. With his help and coordination efforts we have adopted the vision of helping those long lines of people in need in Houston. Imagine giving a Bible to someone who lost their Bible, and everything else they own! Imagine them surrounded by a fresh team of volunteers that will come along side them to do for them what they can’t do alone! That’s powerful!! That is the Gospel in action!
The work will involve coordinating with local Houston area churches, local AIA Staff, GAIN inc. (A Brother humanitarian aid ministry of CRU, gainusa.org) and Samaritan's Purse, to assist families with the removal of all the ruined debris in their homes. We have about 6 staff in the Houston area helping to coordinate with us, and about 11 volunteers opening up their homes to us while we are there.
Most of us will depart this Friday in 3 or 4 vehicles 9/8/17 and return Wednesday or Thursday 9/13/17. I plan on leaving on Sunday 9/10/17 or Monday and return on Saturday 9/16 or so. I will fly down with a colleague of mine, Dean and his wife.

Locally all funds will be collected at our headquarters office at Athletes In Action, 651 Taylor Drive, Xenia, OH 45385 with a note to my attention please, no later than the end of the business day on Friday September 8, 2017.

All of the donations received will go directly to the expenses for the team to travel, and then directly to the families affected by this disaster.
