Our Neighbors' News

We are so thankful for your support and involvement in HIS mission:
"To provide a place where our neighbors eat and
come together as one community."

What's New?

THANKSGIVING DINNER COMMUNITY MEAL

On Wednesday, November 25th, One Bistro will be serving Thanksgiving Dinner for Community Meal from 5:00-7:00 PM. There will be turkey and all the trimmings!

Thank you Southbrook City Lights and Greene Memorial Emergency Department for sponsoring our dinner. We are looking forward to serving with the volunteers from Southbrook City Lights.

COMMUNITY MEAL
Inside the Bistro

We have loved having our Wednesday night Community Meal back inside the bistro! The dinner is complimentary, all are welcome and we encourage you and your family to come and join us!

When we resumed “dine-in” for Community Meal, we thought having three different dinner times would make it easier but what we found out is that it makes it a little more confusing for our diners. So, come one come all between 5pm and 7pm each Wednesday and we will seat on availability. Look for the hostess when you arrive!

Urgent Plea for Volunteers

We need volunteers! We especially need volunteers on Saturday. We are open from 8am to 2pm. It is a long day and especially long day for Chef and Shayne when they have few to no volunteers. They press on and do a beautiful job serving the patrons but dang, it is challenging.

Saturdays are precious days when many folks finally have a day off to get done the things they can’t get done during the week when they are working or their day is filled running from one playing field to another with their athletic children in tow. We get it. We really do.

All that said, to those out there who have some energy, a little extra time, a desire to serve, looking for an adventure, and willing to get outside of their comfort zone, PLEASE come to One Bistro and volunteer for a few hours on a Saturday. You will be blessed beyond measure and you may, if you like, leave with a belly filled with the most delicious breakfast. It’s one of the ways we say thanks for volunteering and sharing the love.

PS: If you have a child or grandchild who is age 15 +, bring them along and teach them how to serve!

Thank you, Volunteers!

Update on the Shaffers

A HUGE thank you to all who gave a gift through Go Fund Me or another means, everyone who sent cards or notes or stopped into the bistro to encourage Chef Greg & Shayne, those who connected them to a resource that would help Lee, and especially to all who have prayed and continue to pray for this dear family!

Lee has had another surgery on his stump and one on his right thumb. At this time the revision to the amputation is 90% healed and he has another week or so in the brace for the left thumb and three more weeks of brace and pins in the right hand. He started physical therapy and is looking forward to starting the process of preparing for the prosthetic. He is still upbeat and positive overall. We are grateful for the prayers and the support of everyone. We still have a long road ahead but it's one day at a time to get to the finish line.

Our Heroes Serve Community Breakfast

Our Heroes, Ohio State Highway Troopers & other local law enforcement, were in the bistro on Saturday October 17 , serving the community breakfast! It was a fantastic time. Thank you so much to all of our local heroes!!

"Our first visit here today! Our whole experience was terrific from the staff, atmosphere and their vision to 'pay it forward!' Highly recommend. You won't be disappointed." ~ Carrie

"2020 and Me"

Diane Dixon, One Bistro Board Treasurer

While 2020 brought uncertain and turbulent times, the Lord’s faithfulness was the steady hand through it all. My personal journey with Melanoma was a good one even when it felt bad and seemed uncertain because of the Lord’s faithfulness. One Bistro’s journey was filled with adventure and it was stirring to see what the Lord had in store for us as the Lord’s faithfulness showed its face in many ways. The love and support of the community and the loyalty of our patrons allowed One Bistro to meet the needs of our clients. The roughest part of 2020 for me was seeing folks struggle in many and varied ways. Covid showed no prejudice; it impacted all walks of life in many different ways. One of my go to verses is “Greater is he that is in me than he that is in the world.” [1 John 4:4]

Kyle Thompson, One Bistro Board Secretary

This year has been challenging to say the least. Busy life as I knew it came to a screeching halt as the stability of my employment, health, and family’s well-being became uncertain. I was given time to reflect, pray, and strengthen my relationship with Christ. God was able to refocus my perspective and draw me closer to Him. I’m thankful for many believers in my life that were supporting and uplifting as we faced new challenges together. I’m thankful for the blessings shown to One Bistro through the generosity of our patrons. I am so glad to be part of an organization that prioritizes loving and serving the community when it needs it most.  Proverbs 1:33 “But those who listen to me will live in safety and comfort. They will have nothing to fear.”

Marcia Meyer O'Rourke, One Bistro Board Member

2020 and it's isolation has given me personal time to reflect and grow as a Christian, to study His word more, and ample time for prayer. Friendships have been strengthened and family bonds solidified. I continue to pray for those directly affected from Covid either through their health, job loss, or missing loved ones. God has surely blessed One Bistro by providing funds to enable our team to assist our staff and those in our community hit hardest financially by the pandemic. I give thanks to God for His love and guidance. May 2021 promise personal and national renewal!

Matthew 28:20 - “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of age.”

Becky Stewart, One Bistro Board Member

This year has presented many mind shifts for me and time to reflect on perspectives. I have been working full time since Covid hit so typical day to day life has continued for my husband and me. I have watched my daughter prevail and learn to adjust to her every changing school schedules and norm. With everything going on this year it certainly has provided several teaching moments for my entire family. I have had a lot of time to focus on what is really important in my life. Personal relationships with family members have grown and my friendship circle has a deeper meaning.

I am so thankful to be a small part in something so big as One Bistro. The community support and continued outpouring of volunteers has be incredible to witness throughout 2020. I can only hope that we continue to lean on one another through faith and fellowship in the coming months and 2021. Prayers for all to stay safe, happy and healthy!
