Our Neighbors' News

According to Map the Meal Gap, as many as 1 in 6 people in the Miami Valley do not know where their next meal is coming from each day!! At One Bistro last year, we were able to feed 5,715 hungry people, because of your generosity and support! Thank you for making a difference for those who are food-insecure in your neighborhood!!

We are so thankful for your support and involvement in our mission:

"To provide a place where our neighbors eat and

come together as one community."

Spotlight on One Bistro's Board
Front Row: Diane Dixon, Kyle Thompson, Denise Davis Back Row: Becky Stewart, Marcia O'Rourke

Diane Dixon, One Bistro Board Treasurer, first heard about the Community Cafe concept from One Bistro's founder, Robert Adamson at a Rotary Club meeting in 2015. Robert asked Diane to help him build a core team of leaders who would be instrumental in supporting and promoting a One Bistro cafe in Xenia. Diane immediately enlisted her sister and business partner, Denise Davis. They began patronizing the bistro, inviting other community leaders to meet them there for lunch. Soon they were securing table sponsors and community meal sponsors and it snowballed from there. Diane loves hosting and serving, "Anything that engages me with the patrons and volunteers." She believes the success of One Bistro is important to the community. "It provides me an opportunity and place to serve the Lord by serving, helping and loving others."

Denise Davis, One Bistro Board President, learned about One Bistro when the food truck used to visit Xenia every Thursday. When she heard they were planning to open a "brick and mortar" cafe in Xenia, she was very excited. Together with her sister and business partner, Diane Dixon, they learned more about how they could support and get involved. When One Bistro opened in Xenia in 2016, Denise and Diane began volunteering their time as coaches, connectors and contributors and haven't looked back since! "Truly, I feel privileged to serve God through the opportunities to serve at One Bistro." Denise loves Community Meal when she is able to "visit and talk to folks." "I especially enjoy times I am able to engage in conversation with patrons and volunteers, learning about their stories and knowing how they made their way to One Bistro. Loving and feeding people is so basic; my community needs this cafe!"

Kyle Thompson, One Bistro Board Secretary, started volunteering at One Bistro back before the Xenia location opened, and the food truck would come to first Fridays. The house church he attended would volunteer regularly when it came to town. This is how he first was introduced to the mission of the bistro, and the "amazing food." When the Xenia location opened, he began to frequent the cafe for lunch 2 or 3 times a week. After a couple of months, he developed a deep appreciation for the cafe and looked into how he could become more involved. He and his wife started sponsoring a table and their small group also sponsors a community meal once a quarter. "I love talking with our volunteers, and learning their stories.Volunteers are the heart of our organization, and I really enjoy learning about their life stories. So many people are unaware of our concept and I get the privilege to share what great things are happening through the benevolence of our patrons, volunteers, and community. I love this ministry. It's an honor to be involved."

Marcia Meyer O'Rourke heard about One Bistro through Diane & Denise and started supporting as a Community Meal sponsor about 3 years ago. She has continued to become more involved and now serves on One Bistro's board as well as being responsible for much of the bistro's social media. Marcia enjoys food photography and loves to highlight the volunteers who faithfully serve, but her favorite posts are #OneBistroSunday. "It is important to be part of our community and help to make it a better place to live, and grow a family. Serving One Bistro helps to feed our community - body and soul! It is rewarding to be part of something so positive."

Becky Stewart first visited One Bistro about 2 years ago when she joined her employer to serve at a Community Meal. From that point on, she was hooked! She loves to serve behind the scenes, at community events and at Community Meal. She loves "all the feels. If I can make a small difference in the big picture purpose behind One Bistro, then its all worth it. It gives me a sense of purpose and gratitude."

Such a photogenic bunch!
"I wish I could eat here everyday! I do go whenever I get the chance. Their mission and the food are excellent and done with great thought and care! Keep up the good work One Bistro!" ~ Shannon
