Our Neighbors’ News

Happy holidays to one and all! During this season of thankfulness and celebration, we thank God for each and every one of you, and we celebrate the GOOD we are able to do in our community because of the light each of you brings to the table! Thank you for making a difference in your neighborhood!

"To provide a place where our neighbors eat and
come together as one community."

"One Bistro has made a huge impact on my life. It is more than food that they serve here. One Bistro gave me a place to feel like I belong and have a purpose. I have made so many friends and memories here. For years the food here has never disappointed. One Bistro is truly a blessing and I hope to see it stick around Xenia for a very long time." ~ Anna

#MyGivingStory

John Caldwell
"I’ve only been volunteering for a few years now, first at Cooking With Love in Key West, FL, and more recently at One Bistro in Xenia, OH. When I started, I did it more out of a feeling of obligation than anything else. After all, I had plenty of stuff to be thankful for, and other people obviously didn’t have enough, so I thought I needed to do at least something to start “giving back to the community!" And to tell the truth, it felt pretty good to be appreciated for my little efforts. My volunteer organizations and the clients I was helping always gave me kudos for just showing up, and it was a great feeling! But you know what? I ultimately figured out that I should be thanking THEM rather than having THEM thanking ME! I can’t really explain it, but I always got more out of the whole experience than I ever gave, and in some ways, I think it might have actually saved me. Volunteering has given me a small way to do something positive. And I’ve got to say, in today’s unfortunate climate of widespread negativity, fear, and political division, I believe that whatever we can all do to help make our world a better and more peaceful place is a much-needed step in the right direction!!"

Jerad & Janel Barnett & Grace Crossing Church
About a year ago, Jerad & Janel Barnett visited One Bistro for the first time as Community Meal Sponsors and volunteers along with Janel's family. They were so impressed with how easy it was to serve and the sustainable model that One Bistro uses that they began to volunteer regularly and finally decided to come back with their community group to sponsor a Community Meal of their own! They are part of a community group through Grace Crossing Church along with three other couples. Each group is encouraged to serve somewhere together and the Barnetts felt called to fulfill Jesus' command to "feed my sheep." One Bistro has allowed them to do just that! They love that they can serve along with their kids and feed people, who they can tell are hungry, a delicious meal, including a "fancy" dessert. "It is a great organization with a unique concept," Jerad said, "and amazing that it is made sustainable. That is a big challenge. We can't wait to come again!"

Join us for Community Meal every Wednesday evening from 5:00-7:00!

"I love the healthy food options at a reasonable price. I like to put my “tip” in the pay it forward jar since all the waiters and waitresses are volunteers. It’s a win-win." ~ Alison

THANK YOU, Volunteers!

We love our volunteers at One Bistro!! It is because of your faithful service and love for your neighbors that we are able to provide a safe place for our community to gather, and nourish their bodies, and their souls!

We are already looking for groups and individuals to sign-up to volunteer in 2020.
