We are excited to announce a special presentation of the musical Annie Jr at X*ACT Xenia Area Community Theater beginning June 14th though the 23rd. Actors Unlimited, a local home-schooled education group, will present the musical to area audiences. Directed by Amy Prestridge and starring, youth members from Actors Unlimited.
Actors Unlimited, led by Ms., Prestridge, is a musical theater group for home school children in grades 7-12. This group welcomes students from a large area, with youth from Springboro, OH., to Wilmington, OH., participating. Though Annie JR is this group’s first production, plans are already being made for next year’s musical. During our weekly rehearsals, students study acting, singing, dancing, and theater arts, such as costumes, props, sets, lights, and sound. Based on the popular comic strip and adapted from the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, with a beloved book and score by Tony Award winners, Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin, Annie JR.features everyone’s favorite little redhead in her very first adventure.
With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone’s hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. Annie is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of an orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. Annie eventually foils Miss Hannigan’s evil machinations, finding a new home and family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.
