Xenia Rotary Club Awards Grant to City of Xenia Tree Committee for Shawnee Park Project

Twelve flowering Cornus kousa ‘Chinensis’ (non-grafted) dogwoods will soon greet visitors to Shawnee Park in Xenia as a result of a grant being awarded to the City of Xenia Tree Committee by the Xenia Rotary Club.

The grant, valued at $2,207, also includes funds for mulch, tree stakes, twine and a watering/irrigation bag system.

The trees will be planted along the walkway entrance to Shawnee Park Pavilion off North Park Drive. The planting will replace lost trees that died due to age and infestation.

The trees will be planted and identified as living memorials to former Xenia Rotary Club members as well as provide a scenic backdrop for those who utilize Shawnee Park for photographs.

The City of Xenia Tree Committee is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to promoting responsible tree management as well as protecting those trees found throughout the community.
