National Museum of the US Air Force - Aviation Art Exhibit Opens

Aviation Art Exhibit Opens May 10 at National Museum of the U.S. Air Force

The National Museum of the U.S. Air Force will host the 33rd Annual International Aerospace Art Exhibition opening on May 10, 2019. This exhibit is part of the American Society of Aviation Artists (ASAA) forum, which is taking place in Dayton, Ohio this year.

Visitors will have the opportunity to meet some of the artists on Thursday, May 9 from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. The exhibit, which will be on display in the museum’s Hall of Honor, will include 60 pieces of art from 40 artists. Topics of the artwork include WWI through current military aircraft, naval aviation, aerobatics, civilian aircraft, commercial aircraft and space.

ASAA selects the artwork for the exhibition through a jury process and presents awards to various artists as part of the forum. In addition to the juried artwork, retrospective pieces that appeared in previous ASAA shows in the past 6 years will be on display.

Five aviation artists founded ASAA in 1986 to affirm standards of professionalism, authenticity and artistic quality in aviation art.  One of the founding artists, Keith Ferris, will have his work on display during this exhibit.

According to ASAA Artist Fellow and 2019 Exhibition Chairman, Michael O’Neal, the purpose of ASAA is to educate the public about the important role aerospace has played in both U.S. and international history and to raise ASAA artists skill levels through regular seminars and instruction.

“We’re excited to have our 33rd annual seminar in Dayton and exhibition on display at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force, and look forward to a productive week of education, fun and fellowship,” said O’Neal. “Our academic classes provide the opportunity for our artists to improve their skills, network with other members, tour outstanding museums like the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force and share our art with the public.”

The 33rd Annual International Aerospace Art Exhibition will be open May 10 – October 31, 2019.
