Xenia Community Festival 2014 Returns to Shawnee Park

The Xenia Community Festival Committee is proud to announce a new--but old--location for the Xenia Community Festival this September 19 and 20--Shawnee Park.

The Festival will retain its Title Sponsor, Greene Memorial Hospital, and will feature Joe Mullins and the Radio Ramblers as the headline entertainment on Saturday night, September 20. The Balloon Glow is being planned for Friday night. Other enhancements for the 2014 Festival are currently in the planning stages.

The Festival will need to leave its previous location due to construction of the new City Hall in downtown Xenia. "The Committee felt moving the Festival now would be the best strategy," said Diane Hollenbeck, President of the Committee.  "We're happy to see the City improving and we think the move will be great for the Festival and the community."

"It's good to see this group think out of the box, not give up, and be proactive--to keep the Festival going in Xenia." said Alan Liming, President and CEO of the Xenia Area Chamber of Commerce.

An internationally respected group, Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers perform an energetic mix of quality Bluegrass and Gospel music. The band has twice had the #1Most Played Bluegrass Album on Satellite Radio and has performed at the Grand Ole Opry.

Other local bands performing are the New Old Fashioned, Slainte and Cabin Fever. The entertainment schedule is listed below. Other local favorites performing over the weekend include the Xenia Hospitality Chorus and dance and cheer groups from the community.

The 2014 Festival features Rails and Trails exhibits, children's rides, an imagination station, paddleboats on the lake, food, vendors, a parade, a Balloon Glow, and free live local entertainment. The Festival will be open from 4 pm to 9 pm Friday and 9 am to 9 pm Saturday.

The Festival will be at the Park for the first time since 2009.  This year Rails and Trails exhibits will be featured in the Armory Building.  Trail-related vendors, arts and craft vendors, food vendors and other vendors will be spread over the Park. Friends of Xenia Station is also sponsoring Xenia’s First Annual Junked Bike Art Competition to be displayed and judged by Festival participants. Friday's festivities include live local entertainment and the Balloon Glow at dusk.

The Parade at 9 am Saturday features a "Ride with the Mayor" where bicyclists can escort the Grand Marshall, Mayor Marsha Bayless, on the route from downtown to Shawnee Park.  Parade applications are available on the Festival website. The XAYP Bike Rodeo and rides on the Shawnee Lake Paddleboats and Carillon Train and are also planned for Saturday. Joe Mullins and the Radio Ramblers will perform Saturday evening at the Festival's finale.

The Xenia Community Festival Committee thanks Title Sponsor Greene Memorial Hospital/Kettering Health Network, and all of our sponsors, for all their support.
