Starting a Business in Xenia
In addition to Federal and State regulations that you may find at SBA and the Ohio Department of Developmentās 1st Stop Business Connection, there are a few things you should know about doing business in Xenia before you open a business.
If you have any questions, or if they can assist you in compliance, please call the Department of Community Development at 937-374-7284 or stop by their office at 966 Towler Rd.
Before signing a lease or opening a business, please contact the City of Xenia Department of Community Development to obtain an application for a zoning permit.
City staff will review the zoning of the location that you have chosen to determine if the proposed business is an allowable use at that site. They will also confirm that the business meets all other pertinent zoning codes. This process is normally completed within three or four days of application submission. You must then submit the Zoning Permit to Greene County Building Inspection who, after inspecting the premises, is authorized to issue a Certificate of Occupancy.
If you are proposing interior or exterior modifications to an existing commercial building, or if you are planning any new commercial construction, a site plan and architectural schematics may also be required.
All new signs and alterations of existing signs require a zoning permit. The Xenia Planning and Zoning Code regulates the number, size and height of all signs. Therefore, please explore the regulations prior to ordering any sign. For more information, contact the City of Xenia Department of Community Development at the number and address listed above.
