City of Xenia Pamphlet Helps Guide New Businesses |
The City of Xenia has a new pamphlet that helps guide new or expanding businesses through the permitting process, and also provides a quick reference section of resources that may assist businesses.
The new guide is available in hardcopy at the City Building, Xenia Service Center, Xenia Area Chamber of Commerce and other locations, and is also posted on the City and XACC websites for download. It provides an easy to follow table that explains what permits may be necessary for a new or expanding business, and who to contact for more information.
"Knowing when you need a zoning or building permit can be confusing, and is generally the last thing on the mind of someone who is opening a new business," said Development Director Steve Brodsky. The guide is not meant to address every situation possible, but to provide general categories, such as opening or expanding a business in an existing building, new construction, or various renovations.
"Our City planning and zoning department will work with people to help them through the process. Often one of the major issues is people just don't know what is needed," said City Manager Jim Percival. "It is easier to work with someone from step one, before they have started their project, rather than trying to take care of everything after the fact," Percival said.
In addition to the Permit Process Guide, the new pamphlet also offers resources for businesses, from local information to business counseling and state resources.
"There are a lot of resources available to small businesses, whether a new business just starting up or an existing business that may need some help to grow," Brodsky said. The guide offers local contact information for these resources, who may refer business owners to more specialized programs that can assist with a particular issue.
The guide was produced with the input of several local business owners, the Xenia Downtown Revitalization Committee and the Xenia Area Chamber of Commerce. "Our business community is an important partner with the City in helping our community to thrive, and we appreciate the time and effort they continue to invest to help us grow," Percival said. |
