| Description: | Volunteers for the Xenia Downtown Revitalization Committee (XDRC) will be at their First Friday information booth to kick off their 2012 Christmas Window Decorating Contest and to guide the community to the evening's downtown offerings. All downtown building and business owners can go online starting August 3rd to register for the 2012 Christmas Window Decorating Contest, which culminates at Xenia's December 8th Hometown Christmas event. Scott Calhoun, volunteer chairperson of the window decorating work group, said the theme for this year's contest is Christmas Carols and Songs. "This year we're asking each business or building owner to choose just one carol or song online at http://xeniadrc.org/hometownchristmas.cfm and begin planning for their holiday inspired window display. And just like last year, displays should include a bicycle of some kind to show our Xenia cycling pride," Calhoun said. The carol and song choices are available first come/first served, so be sure to register early. Cash prizes will be awarded based on votes from the public and judges. This month's First Friday event will feature the Wright Brothers Band live in front of the Courthouse from 5:00-8:30 p.m., the Amazing Giant, a troupe of strolling stilt-walking performance artists, a Dance Loft Performance, and the historic walking tour held monthly starting in front of the Courthouse at 6:30 p.m. The Silent Auction will be held at The Flower Stop on W. Main with proceeds going to XDRC to fund downtown events and activities. Further up N. Detroit, the City of Xenia Development Department will be giving away balloons and sharing information about downtown projects including recent murals, curb and sidewalk improvements, signage, and building renovations. "The growing number of events and activities downtown and at First Fridays make the volunteer-staffed booth located at the southwest corner of W. Main and South Detroit Street a necessity," says John Finlay volunteer chairperson for the nonprofit XDRC. In addition to information about the downtown window decorating contest, XDRC volunteers are eager to promote their organization and its role in growing downtown Xenia. XDRC volunteers offer not only the First Fridays events, but workshops, projects and celebrations of Xenia downtown.
