| Description: | Downtown Xenia is the place to be on the first Friday of every month through October. This First Friday, June 1, 2012, enjoy free music at the Greene County Courthouse performed by the popular reggae band Seefari. Lawn chairs and picnic blankets are welcome. There will be children's activities at the library and at the City of Xenia booth, and many other booths. "At the June 1st event, children will be able to plant their own seeds in planting pots, and GROW with XENIA" commented Mary Ann Richardson, a City of Xenia Finance Department employee and First Fridays volunteer. The athletically inclined can take part in the Zumba demonstration at the Montgomery Insurance Lot, or bicycle into town and park their bike at the XDRC Bike Corral where volunteers from Xenia Downtown Revitalization Committee (XDRC) and Friends of Xenia Station (FOXS) will watch your bicycle for the evening while you stroll the open houses of participating retailers. The Greene County Historical Society will hold their monthly historic tour of downtown commercial buildings, departing from E. Main south of the Courthouse at 6:30 p.m. The First Friday event, now in its fourth year, continues to grow and flourish with repeat vendors and attendees each month returning for family-friendly fun and unique shopping opportunities. The First Fridays events feature numerous food vendors at the Whiteman Parking lot Food Court at the corner of E. Main and Whiteman. This year visitors can pick up a delicious meal of grilled chicken, porkchops, hot dogs and other fair food as well as enjoy downtown festivities. First Fridays events run from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., and will continue through October 2012. |
