October First Friday Features Exciting New Entertainment

Xenia’s October 5th First Friday is quickly approaching, and marks the end of the season for this popular community event.  Families, friends and members of the community will gather downtown for an evening of music, shopping and fun.

October’s First Friday will feature live music by Michael Locke and the Repeat Offenders on the Courthouse stage from 5-8 p.m., and Just N Tyme at Willie’s Bar and Grill from 6-10 p.m.  Additional entertainment options include the strongmen of Christ Strength Gym performing amazing physical challenges on West Main Street, juggler, street performer and circus acrobat Tony Steinbach at various locations throughout downtown, and caricaturist Dennis Porter.

The City of Xenia Fire and Police Departments are partnering with the Family Violence Prevention Center this month to provide information and activities to promote fire prevention and domestic violence prevention.  The Family Violence Prevention Center’s Purple Light Nights Balloon Glow Awareness Walk will begin at the corner of Main and Detroit Streets at 8 p.m. and conclude at the Courthouse for a moment of silence and song at 8:30 p.m.  The Greene County Historical Society’s walking tour starts at 6:30 p.m. in front of the Courthouse, and is a great opportunity to discover and learn more about your historic downtown.

The Silent Auction will be held at The Flower Stop on W. Main with proceeds going to XDRC to fund downtown events and activities. The auction is a popular First Friday event, so stop by early to bid on gift items, tickets to area events, and gift certificates to local businesses.  First Friday is also great time to check out downtown Xenia’s unique shops and businesses, many of which will be open into the evening.  The event will also feature a number of new vendors offering handmade goods and popular products, including seasonal holiday gift and décor items.

Event goers are invited to stop by the information booth located at the southwest corner of W. Main and S. Detroit streets anytime throughout the evening.  XDRC volunteers will be available to answer questions about First Friday, the upcoming 2012 Christmas Window Decorating Contest, and downtown Xenia events, workshops and projects.
