Family Violence Prevention Center to Observe Purple Light Nights

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the Family Violence Prevention Center (FVPC) would like to invite area businesses to join with us to shine the color purple throughout the month of October to spread the message that “Domestic Violence has NO PLACE in our Community.”

One in 4 women and 1 in 9 men in the United States are victims of relationship violence at some point in their lives Locally, this means that approximately 29,400 individuals in Greene County are affected by relationship violence!

Purple Light Nights® began in Covington, Washington in 2007 as a vehicle to provide a greater awareness of domestic violence issues, remember the victims, support the survivors and bring hope to those still abused.  Today Purple Light Nights® is an international campaign.  Currently 23 US states, 3 Canadian providences, and the territory of Guam participate in this campaign by shining purple lights on every porch, every business, and in trees during the month of October.

FVPC hopes that we can count on you to shine a purple light between October 1st – 31st, or decorate your business window with a purple theme.

For more information about Purple Light Nights®, visit www.purplelightnights.org.  For help with an issue regarding relationship violence call the FVPC hotline at 937-372-4552 or 937-426-2334.
