Workshops Planned for June/July 2012!   

How do we "fix up" some of our downtown buildings?  The Xenia Economic Restructuring Subcommittee is offering two Redevelopment Workshops for Downtown - Thursdays June 21st and July 19th from 9-11:00 at the Xenia Library, 76 E. Market Street. Interested in being a part of the solution?  Join us for these informative sessions. Call the Xenia Development Department for more information or to RSVP  at 372-6389.

Next First Friday July 6, 2012 

 What's a little rain?  The May 4th and June 1st First Fridays started with a few showers, but ended up with a bang!   From 100 ++ women doing Zumba in the Montgomery Parking lot (E. Second and Detroit), to Karate on Courthouse Square there was plenty of action, food and fun downtown. Yep, First Fridays are back and we are gearing up to make this the best series of First Fridays yet with more vendors, more entertainment, and fun food booths. The next First Fridays are July 6, August 3, September 7 and October 5, 2012.  If you are an Arts & Crafts vendor, a food vendor, or even a non-profit interested in setting up a booth, be sure to check out our website at http://www.xeniadrc.org/firstfridays.cfm.

Committee News

  XDRC Volunteers have been hard at work! Some highlights:

Economic Restructuring- Offered Downtown Merchants a chance to learn about their market through the Buxton Market Study - (call Steve Brodsky for your appointment and consult at 372-7943.)  Planning a series of workshops on Main Street Makeovers learning about funding resources and strategies for acquiring and/or fixing up vacant structures downtown.  (June 21st and July 19th)  Engaged a WSU intern to develop a downtown database who is surveying downtown building owners. 

Design   - Reviewing design plans for upcoming projects downtown, Held Walking Tour of the Downtown April 28th and at future First Fridays (6:30 from the Courthouse), approved mural design for next mural downtown, assisted with a "How to open a Xenia Business" guide.

Organization -Building fund-raising campaign for XDRC.  Developed membership form, raising awareness, developing annual budget.

Promotions - Growing website, brand, facebook page, fulfilling the marketing plan, and working hard to get the word out!  So much to do! 

Window Decorating Committee - Planning year 2 to be bigger and better lighing up the town to the sound of Christmas music!   

Downtown Progress

Check out the video that includes owners Tim Sontag (Xenia Shoe and Leather) and Alan King, (X*ACT Theater) discussing their recent facade loans and some of the many other facade loan projects that will be coming downtown this year!

Farmers Market Happening Downtown

Farmers Market Downtown at Towne Square is now open

Tuesdays, 2pm-6pm at Xenia Towne Square lot just south of KMART

Come over and sample the early berries, fruits and vegetables of the Greene County Farmers' Market Association who is offering this market for the second year in a row.  For more information, go to the Farmers Market link.

Lunch and Learn with Heritage Ohio at the City of Xenia! 

The June webinar was moved from the 6th (first Wed) to the 20th by Heritage Ohio. 2nd Mural Coming Downtown

Be Watching --- 

The Xenia Mural Society/Design Subcommittee of the XDRC is watching with eager anticipation as the long-awaited, prize-winning artwork for Xenia's Downtown Trails is painted by professional muralist, Keith Hassenbalg.  The mural will be painted this month on the south wall of 130 S. Detroit where the Fastenal business is located.  The mural is part of the many downtown improvements occurring through the City's Downtown Tier Two Comprehensive Grant of 2009.
