Xenia Area Chamber of Commerce (XACC) Hosting Business Symposium on Health Care Reform

On Wednesday, September 7, 2011, the XACC will host a business symposium Health Care Reform: What Employers Need to Know by speaker John McGough, McGough & Associates. The event is free for members of the Xenia Area Chamber and $25 for nonmembers. A free box lunch will be served. Click here for the flyer/registration form.

The symposium program is sponsored by the Ohio Chamber of Commerce and Frank Gates/Avizent as a way to educate business people on today’s pressing business issues. Health Care Reform is a complicated issue that will have a nationwide impact. Business owners and managers are encouraged to attend.

The featured speaker is John McGough. Mr. McGough is president of McGough & Associates, a government affairs consulting firm located in Columbus has spent over 25 years representing businesses and trade associations before the Ohio Legislature and agencies of state government. During the past 15 years much of John’s work has focused on health care and health insurance issues affecting Ohioans.  This includes Ohio’s employer and individual health insurance market, health care for those on Medicaid and those receiving long-term care services.

Mr. McGough’s presentation to the Xenia Area Chamber of Commerce will provide a timely update on the provisions affecting employers included in the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that Congress passed and President Obama signed into law last year.  One of the most far-reaching provisions of the new law is the creation of a health insurance purchasing Exchange that could greatly impact how Ohioans purchase their health insurance in the future. Many employers will need to consider whether providing health insurance to employees vs. dropping coverage and sending employees to an Exchange is the best thing for their employees and their business.

John currently represents two statewide trade associations, the Ohio Association of Health Underwriters (health insurance agents) and the Ohio Association of Health Plans.  Last year, John served on the Ohio Health Benefits Exchange Task Force which was charged with providing recommendations to former Governor Strickland and the Legislature relating to Ohio’s establishment of a health insurance Exchange and currently is working closely on this issue with key officials in the Legislature and Governor Kasich’s Administration.

John received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Kent State University and his law degree from Creighton University
