Popular Xenia Holiday Tradition Moved to Spring
One of Xenia’s longstanding and popular holiday traditions has been now been moved to the spring. The annual United States Air Force concert that’s been a holiday season opener in the Xenia community for years has been re-scheduled to April 12, 2011. It will be held in the Xenia High School Bob Hope Auditorium and will feature the Night Flight Jazz Ensemble.
According to Xenia Area Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Alan Liming this year’s performance by the military musicians was postponed because of their widespread deployment.
Senior Master Sgt. Todd Nichols, USAF, United States Band of Flight, Superintendent of Operations, advised, “Regrettably, we will be unable to participate in your event due to a world-wide deployment that has caused us to alter our concert band schedule this past year.”
Night Flight is the largest ensemble from within the Concert Band. This 30-piece jazz ensemble combines the best in traditional and contemporary big band jazz. They have performed at national and international festivals and conferences with such noted jazz artists as Al Vizutti, Rob McConnell and Arturo Sandoval. Outstanding charts written and arranged by Night Flight personnel and the world’s leading jazz composers provide a framework for their exciting performances.
The concert, jointly sponsored by the XACC, Xenia Community Schools and Xenia Daily Gazette-Greene County Dailies, is presented with no admission charge.
“Those who have enjoyed the concerts over the years agree that whether it’s held in December or on April 12, it is worth waiting for,” Liming said.
