Soil samples taken at sites for five new Xenia elementary schools

Xenia Community Schools Supt. Deborah Piotrowski visits Shawnee Elementary School to stress importance of voting

Soil samples taken at sites for five new Xenia elementary schools

Soil samples were taken this week at the sites of the five new elementary schools to be built in Xenia as part of the Ohio School Facility Commission project.  The State of Ohio is paying for almost one-half of the total construction cost. D and T Drillers Inc. are shown at Shawnee Elementary School as samples are taken to prepare for the foundation work on the schools.  Artist renderings, accent colors and interior designs are currently being finalized by the distract and contractors. Ground breaking for the project is expected to happen in early 2011 for all five schools. More information on the school building project can be found by visiting www.xenia.k12,oh.us and following the construction link.

Xenia Community Schools Supt. Deborah Piotrowski visits Shawnee Elementary School to stress importance of voting

When Xenia Community Schools Supt. Deborah Piotrowski realized she needed to register for vote in Greene County, she created a teachable moment for the third grade students in Jim Lamb's class at Shawnee Elementary School.  She visited the class and spoke about the importance of voting, why we vote and how she needed to register to vote in her new community.  Shawnee Elementary School is her neighborhood school and third grade students are beginning to learn about social science and government.  Shown is Piotrowski as she explains the Greene County Board of Elections website and the form she needs to complete to register to vote.
