Xenia Community Schools Receives State Honor for Community Newsletter and Writing Efforts

Xenia Community Schools (XCS) community newsletter, In Touch, received a Mark of Excellence award recently from the National School Public Relations Association/Ohio (NSPRA) in honor of its writing, photography, editorial content and graphics. The publication is produced three times annually and can also be found on the districts website and Facebook account.  XCS School and Community Relations Coordinator Gretchen Rives is editor of the publication.  Rives also received a Mark of Excellence Award in writing for an article produced during the recent successful school bond campaign for five new elementary schools in the district. NSPRA awards were presented to school communicators throughout Ohio at the Spring conference.

Xenia Board of Education Set to Hire First Woman Superintendent for School District

The Xenia Board of Education (XBOE)  is moving towards the final details in hiring Deborah Piotrowksi, Millcreek-West Unity Local Schools Superintendent, as the school districts first female school superintendent.
    The XBOE has a special board meeting set for 5 p.m., June 3, to tentatively make the official decision.
    Piotrowski received her undergraduate degree and graduate degree in education from the University of Toledo. She is scheduled to complete her doctorate of education from the University of Toledo in December 2010.
    Before entering education, she worked for 15 years with Consolidated Rail Corporation.
    She has served as a teacher with Toledo Public Schools and Washington Local Schools; principal at Wernert Elementary School in Washington Local Schools; and is currently superintendent at Millcreek West Unity School District.
