Free Writing Workshop to be Offered at Blue Jacket Books

Local author and writing instructor Ed Davis will be offering a free workshop on Autobiographical Fiction at Blue Jacket Books on Saturday, June 19th from 2:00-4:00 PM.

The workshop will focus on how to transform true stories from the writer's life—through the magic of fiction—into larger, perhaps more universal, truths.  If you are thinking about writing a short story, novel, or essay based on your life experience, this is the class for you. If you already write fact-based fiction, tips will be given which should improve your work.

Ed Davis has taught writing at Sinclair Community College for many years, and has also taught the poetry seminar at the Antioch Writers' Workshop. This is his second workshop at Blue Jacket Books.

Participants will have the opportunity to submit up to 1,000 words (about 4 double-spaced pages) of prose by Friday, June 4th. They may submit fact-based fiction, creative nonfiction, or memoir (no genre fiction: fantasy, romance, horror, etc.). Ed will read and provide written comments on each manuscript, and there will be group discussion of each person’s work (as long as the writer is comfortable with it).

The workshop is limited to 12 participants and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. To sign up or request additional information, please call 937-376-3522 or e-mail info@bluejacketbooks.com.
