Ohio Department of Development Announces Small Business Development Seminars
Ohio Department of Development Director Lisa Patt-McDaniel has announced a series of small business development seminars for minority and small business owners. The initiative, sponsored by the Department’s Entrepreneurship and Small Business Division, Small Business Development Centers of Ohio, Minority Business Enterprise Division, and the U.S. Small Business Administration, is a broad effort to strengthen and expand business ownership among minorities. The free seminars will be offered from March through November.
"Small and minority-owned business often face barriers when trying to start, grow, and sustain their ventures," Patt-McDaniel said. "The small business development seminars will assist our entrepreneurs in gaining the knowledge and expertise that can help them be successful in today’s global economy."
The series was developed specifically to address the needs of minority business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs. Representatives from the Small Business Development Centers of Ohio, U.S. Small Business Administration, and the Urban League will give in-depth overviews of small business programs and services available to assist minority entrepreneurs and business owners. The seminars will provide information on establishing a business, operating a business, loan programs, marketing, and procurement opportunities.
All Small Business Development Series seminars will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the locations listed below in the following cities: Dayton, Columbus, Zanesville, Mansfield, and Lima. The seminars are free of charge, but registration is required.
In addition to the free seminars, there will be a fee-based series focusing on entrepreneurship training. The training will provide information on topics such as 21st century leadership, human capital, and building strategic alliances. Entrepreneurship training seminars will be held at the Small Business Administration Training Center, located at 401 North Front Street, Suite 200, Columbus, Ohio 43215 or online via a ReadyTalk Webinar. The fee for each Entrepreneurship Training seminar is $19.95 and a schedule is listed below.
Interested business owners can learn more about the seminar series or register by contacting the Columbus Small Business Administration office at (614) 469-6860 extension 282.
Additional co-sponsors of the 2010 Small Business Development Series Seminars include SCORE "Counselors to America's Small Business," National City Bank (now a part of PNC), National CEO Leadership Institute, and Tiny Communications, LLC.
