Xenia Community School District superintendent search
The Xenia Community Schools Board of Education (XBOE) is beginning its evaluation of the candidates for the superintendent’s position, according to XBOE member William Spahr.
This is the second phase of the search to replace Xenia Community Schools Supt. Jeff Lewis, Ed.D., who will be retiring in July 2010, Spahr says.
“The Board is inviting staff and community members to help form the mold that the Board of Education and the Ohio School Boards Association will use to select the candidates to interview,” stated XBOE President Paul Dillaplain, M.D. “The staff and community will meet on March 17 at Xenia High School with Al Maloy from the Ohio School Board Association to discuss the qualities, talents and background they believe our next superintendent should have to serve in the position. The information that comes from those meetings along with the input from the Board will guide the selection of interviewees.”
The times for the groups to meet with OSBA on March 17 will be at 10 a.m. for school bus drivers and 2 p.m. for the school maintenance and custodial staff. Administrators will meet at 2:45 p.m., followed by the teaching and clerical staff at 3:45 p.m. The meetings will be held in the XHS Auditorium.
All community members are invited to attend at 6 p.m. at the XHS Cafeteria.
“The board is excited about the interview process, Spahr says. Our search six years ago attracted inquiries from 47 qualified educators. From that group, we received solid applications from 34 experienced administrators from eight different. Since the school system has received an Excellent rating from the state the past two years and with the future changes in the elementary buildings supported largely by the state’s OSFC funds, we should be able to draw another large number of applicants.”

Puffs of dry ice smoke, a changing kaleidoscope of colors in laboratory beakers, rocketing balloons and surprise appearances by various science super heroes captured the imagination of Xenia Community Schools youngest students recently when the Xenia High School Chemistry Club stopped by to visit.
Each year, the XHS Chemistry Club--- led by high school science teacher Bill Richey---visits Xenias seven elementary schools to put on a chemistry show that illustrates the magic that is science.
The program is funded through grants and school parent organizations.
Prior to a school-wide assembly, the students at Cox Elementary School enjoyed hands-on demonstrations conducted by members of the XHS Chemistry Club.
