Funding Received from Nationwide Avon Foundation for Women Grants Program for Domestic Violence Organizations
The Avon Foundation for Women has awarded an $8500 one-year grant to the Family Violence Prevention Center of Greene County (FVPC) to provide direct services to domestic violence victims. It is the fifth year that FVPC has received Avon Foundation funding to support its work on this important issue. The grant is part of an annual program of Avon Products, Inc. and the Avon Foundation for Women that invites Avon regional branch offices across the US to nominate worthwhile local non-profit organizations for funding under the Avon Speak Out Against Domestic Violence program.
Through the awarding of this grant, FVPC will continue to support victims in the Greene County area and deliver essential services including: shelter, counseling, educational and professional training, and advocacy and case management.
For 30 years, FVPC has provided services and support to thousands of domestic violence victims. FVPC supports victims of domestic violence holistically through its four prongs of prevention, intervention, outreach and safe housing. Programs and services include: educational/support groups, counseling, case management and links to other community resources.
Around the world, at least one in every four women has experienced some form of violence or abuse during her lifetime, and studies show some 15 million children witness domestic violence each year. Men can be victims as well, although research shows most victims are women. FVPC helps ensure that everyone in need has access to services that will help them rebuild their lives and break the cycle of domestic violence for themselves, their families, and future generations.
FVPC Awarded Awarded Avon Foundation Grant
“We are proud that the Avon Foundation for Women shares our mission and has chosen to support our program. With these funds we will be able to continue to be a refuge of hope for a violence free community,” says Donna Sizemore, executive director, Family Violence Prevention Center.
The Speak Out Against Domestic Violence program launched in 2004 to help end the cycle of domestic violence, with a focus on children affected by violence. Through the end of 2009 in the U.S. alone Avon Foundation has awarded over $12 million to more than 400 domestic violence organizations for awareness, education, direct services and prevention programs.
“The Avon Foundation for Women is committed to help end the cycle of domestic violence and is proud to support FVPC in its work to help victims in Greene County” says Carol Kurzig, President, Avon Foundation for Women. “It is through the combination of local and national efforts that we can work to eradicate domestic violence and ensure safety for all families.”
