Xenia Little Leaguer News

The Xenia LL has been quietly busy over the past two months. In late November Xenia LL held its drawing for the prizes in the raffle, with all prizes distributed before Christmas. “We would like to thank all those put donated by purchasing raffle tickets to support the Xenia Little League,” comments Thom Armstrong.

In recent executive board meetings, the board has decided to allow the community the opportunity in helping to decide the MLB team names to be used by Xenia LL. "This gives the community a voice to help make decisions for their league," states Thom. All community members can log into the website and vote on the poll question on the home page.

At this current time, registration has been going really well! The next registration date is set for February 6 followed by the 20th and 27th as well. "We urge everyone to keep posted to our website for more information on and recommend us to more players," states Thom Armstrong. Xenia LL had a great turn out in December with their free T-Shirt promotion. They are currently offering $5 cash back to any registered player who refers a any player to register. To help bolster the girls softball program Thom is offering a free window decal in addition to the $5 cash back for referring a girl softball player. They are inviting any player, boy or girl regardless of skill level to come play.

Xenia LL looking for Girls!!

Do you girls like fastpitch softball? Well, Xenia LL has the spot for you to play. They are offering softball to girls of all ages from 5 and up. They are also offering an All-Star team that would play after the regular season to play for the Little League Softball World Series! The league is trying to offer girls only coach pitch program where the girls would segregate from the boys after T-Ball. This would help the girls to get more acclimated to the game of fastpitch softball. So if you are a girl that would love to be part of a team and play fastpitch softball, don’t delay, and come see us today!

Education is First!!

According to Thom Armstrong, Xenia LL is going to step off the field and into the classroom to help students. Xenia LL is offering a program to help students achieve rewards in the classroom as well as earning their rewards on the baseball/softball fields. "I believe that class work is the highest of importance of any student-athlete regardless of the level of competition. I also believe that if we help to put interest in our players class work, that they will perform better on tests and strive harder to achieve in school," explains Thom. The philosophy of this program is simple: Good grades and an education will take you farther than any sport can ever take you. They want the players to be able to ask coaches or board members anytime they need help with homework and for the coaches to be understanding about helping the young players to achieve in the classroom just as much as they do on the field. Xenia LL can NOT stress enough how important child safety AND their education is.

Sponsors have been Plentiful

The Xenia LL would like to give a huge thank you to all of the generous sponsorships that have been donated by the local businesses in the Xenia Community. We are proud to announce that the Xenia Fraternity of Eagles has donated over $5000 to help with purchasing equipment as well as helping to pay for capital improvements for the playing fields. Xenia LL would also like to thank Moody Cement, Alan Besco Cars and Trucks, Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Xenia Firefighter’s Assoc. Gerdes Turf Farms, The Printing Center, JCL Equipment, Doster’s Heating and Cooling, Shack and Sons Construction, and Nick’s Restaurant for their partnership in helping the youth of the community by donating funds to help out. "We could NEVER do any of this without our community support," Thom states. Dave adds, "It’s great to see our community coming together for a common goal: the kids." Avery thanks is owed to the City of Xenia for their agreement with Xenia LL on a contract to utilize West Side Park. The contract term is for 10 yrs. The contract allows Xenia LL to improve the park to make it safe for the youth as well as a pleasure to visit. "Thanks to Xenia and ALL of our wonderful sponsors," says Thom and Dave.

Volunteer to Help

If you are interested in helping Xenia LL by volunteering, you can come to the registration dates or by contacting Thom or Dave. Many volunteers will be needed to operate the new league. Coaches, additional Board Members, Scorekeepers, Umpires, Concession Workers, Team moms and dads are still needed to continue the success. Training will be provided by Little League Intl. at the "Little League Road Show" coming to Miamisburg on March 20, 2010. "We would love to see all our board members, coaches, and umpires there to get the best training possible by Little League themselves," comments Dave.
