The XACC's own Xenia Area Young Professionals Announce December Networking & Fundraising Event
Their December 2009 networking event will be held at Nick's Restaurant & Bar and will benefit the Xenia Community Schools' Homeless Education Program. All XACC members are invited and encouraged to attend whether they are members of XAYP or above the age limit, such as Alan, your Chamber President/CEO.
Every year the Xenia Area Young Professionals, a committee of the Xenia Area Chamber of Commerce, hosts a networking event in December that puts an emphasis on educating the Chamber's membership to a particular local charity. This year's charity focus will be the Xenia Community Schools' Homeless Education Program.
The Homeless Education Program reaches out to families in transition and supports students who may be dealing with homelessness by offering assistance with enrollment, transportation and providing basic supplies. Homeless or transitional students in our community translate into children living with other extended family members, in hotels, homeless shelters, emergency housing or the family violence center. All barriers to enrolling a child in a Xenia school will be removed to expedite their experiencing a stable, consistent educational experience. Students will be mainstreamed into the school seamlessly. Tutoring, mentoring and other support services are offered by the program, as well as referrals to other programs or agencies as needed. The program is funded through the McKinney-Vento grant. The purpose of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Children and Youth Program is to ensure that all children and youth have equal access to the same free and appropriate public education, including preschool education as non-homeless children and youth. The local program is spearheaded by XCS Homeless Liaison Sandy Pramer with the additional financial support of community individuals, businesses and organizations.
An increasing number of local children are served by the schools’ homeless program. Currently the program is assisting 96 school age and 31 preschool children. The monies collected will be used for items such as clothing, shoes, bedding, basic hygiene items, etc. - items not covered by the educational grant. For more information on the program or how to support its efforts, contact Sandy Pramer at 562-9017.
The Xenia Area Young Professionals (XAYP) is a group developed in 2007 in the Xenia Area Chamber of Commerce for professionals age 40 and under. Their goal is to provide the Chamber's members with networking, community involvement, professional development & education, and social events. XAYP offers quarterly networking events at local restaurants. Members are encouraged to bring business acquaintances and friends. This is a great way to start meeting other professionals in the community, learn of community events and issues, and become active within the organization.
