Fun, football and food come together to benefit community at Xenia High School game
Football, fun and food joined together during the last Xenia High School football game to benefit Xenia families. Food was collected the week prior to the game and at the game with all items being delivered to Red Cross. Shown collecting and loading the non-perishable food items are, left to right, Xenia Community Schools (XCS) Homeless Liaison Sandy Pramer, RN; her granddaughter, Cassie Salva; and XCS Cafeteria Coordinator Charlene Landis. XHS joins with Barnes and Noble to host third annual Book Fair on Dec. 5
The sale of books will actually purchase more books for the Xenia High School (XHS) Library as part of the third annual Book Fair sponsored by the school and Barnes and Noble, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5, at the store’s Beavercreek location.
A percentage of total purchases made that day at any greater-Dayton area Barnes and Noble store will be donated to Xenia High School if the buyer has a Barnes and Noble Book Fair voucher. Vouchers must be presented at the time of the purchase and are available from Xenia High School, the Xenia School District website-www.xenia.k12.oh.us-or the Xenia Board of Education, 578 East Market Street, Xenia.
Buyers may choose from bestsellers, children’s books, toys, gift items, games, home and office products, Godiva chocolates, packaged Starbucks coffee, CDs and DVDs. All proceeds from the Xenia High School/Barnes and Noble Book Fair will be used to purchase materials for the XHS library.
“Last year’s book fair was such a success that we were able to purchase many titles that appealed to our students. This year, we hope to continue that success because we know it directly benefits our students. One of our literacy goals for XHS is that students read 25 books per year. We’re trying to make it easy for our students to meet this goal by giving them books they like to read,” said XHS Librarian Kay Gerspacher.
The book fair offers special performances by XHS Science Teacher Bill Richey with the Magic of Chemistry; XHS Jazz Band; XHS Ensemble; and more.

The project was made possible by the XEEF, Warner Parent Advisory Council, Sulina Farm, Jill O’Banion, Greene County Soil and Water Conservation District, as well as all teachers, students and staff. WMS teacher and project coordinator Holly Keadle is pleased to see the final steps happen with the pump installation on the day the pond was finished.

Warner Middle School hosts Veterans Day assembly to honor past, current military personnel
Flags, music, singing and the written word call came together as past and present military personnel were honored at Warner Middle School in observation of Veterans Day. Staff, students and invited guests --- including VFW Post 2402 --- came together to reflect and remember. Veterans on the Warner Middle School and the Xenia Board of Education, as well as a soldier --- who returned from Iraq just three weeks ago --- were honored.
Returning from Iraq three weeks ago serving with the U.S. Army, Christopher Grundy leaves the assembly through a student flag honor guard. Grundy is also the brother of WMS seventh grade student DaRahn Grundy.
Kaderius Field-Love, far right, reads an essay about why Veterans Day is important to him while WMS teacher Linda Comer listens.
With her gift of song, WMS music teacher Lynnora Stivers performed a vocal solo on the piano.
Both veterans, WMS teacher Greg Dean and Xenia Board of Education member Rick McClelland leave the Veterans Day assembly through a flag honor guard.
In addition to the assembly, student created posters sharing their appreciation to veterans in their families. Shown is the poster of Cory Falls in honor and memory of Richard Falls, Curt Craiger and Michael Craiger.
