The 2009 Partners in Education Breakfast Was a Great Success
Partners in Education awards new community honors and recognizes newest “Partners” with Xenia Community Schools.
Area business leaders, community organizations and individuals were honored for their gifts of time, talent or funding to Xenia Community Schools at the recent Partners in Education (PIE) Appreciation Breakfast at Faith Community United Methodist.
Partners in Education is sponsored by the Xenia Area Chamber of Commerce, Greene County Career Center and Xenia Community Schools. Partners in Education strives to extend the boundaries between schools and businesses.
Lew Gibbs, Director of Career Services, Cedarville University, was the featured speaker and shared the impact education will have on preparing students for careers in the future.
Awards were presented to Partners in Education participants for their efforts in supporting Xenia Community Schools.
Those new Partners of the Year award recipients include:
*Rookie Partner of the Year: Earl Jenkins Lawn and Landscaping;
*Community Partner of the Year: Spring Valley United Methodist Church;
*Business Partner of the Year: Lowes of Xenia; and
*School Partner of the Year: Shawnee Elementary School.
Relationships between Partners and Xenia schools can be established in many ways, such as loaning or donating equipment, providing funds or items to be used as incentives for academic achievements, sharing specific talents with a class or within a school, sponsoring field trips, serving as a mentor and much more.
New Partners recognized at the breakfast included:

*Christ Episcopal Church
*Alan Liming
*Faith Community United Methodist
The breakfast was underwritten by Wright Patt Credit Union and Bob Evans, who provided all food; as well as the Xenia Area Chamber of Commerce for all mailing and printing costs. Pumpkins decorated by the Xenia High School Art Club were awarded as door prizes.
