Xenia High School Celebrates Homecoming Week with Series of Special Celebrations.

Spirit Week was celebrated at Xenia High School as both students and staff prepared for Homecoming Weekend.  All were encouraged to participate in a week of special events, which included PJ Day, Decade Day, Nerd Day, Super Hero Day and Blue and White Day.  The week was capped off by a Pep Rally, Homecoming Game and Homecoming Dance. The week began with PJ Day where staff and students wore lounge wear to school that frequently featured onesies and lots of flannel.

Cowpokes, little doggies, campfires and even a few bandits could be found at Xenia Community Schools recently during its week-long Saddle Up and Read Celebration that featured visiting author Elizabeth Cody Kimmel.

A week-long reading incentive program, Right to Read Week is designed to urge students to read more often and to discover reading is fun.
Students who read a total of 150 minutes during Right to Read Week may receive recognition for meeting their goal.

As the years visiting author, Kimmel will presented at all Xenia elementary schools, St. Brigid School and Cedarville University at a childrens literature class. Each school has its own Right To Read Week Committee that has planned special events, such as Dress As A Westerner Day, guest readers, bookmaking, readathons and more.

The Xenia Community Schools Right to Read celebration was held at Tecumseh Elementary School.  Activities included face painting, games led by physical education teachers, art activities, reading groups, songs, readathons, book sales and a book signing by Kimmel.

A descendent of Buffalo Bill Cody, Kimmel is the author of many childrens books, such as One Sky Above Us: The Adventures of Young Buffalo Bill; To The Frontier:  The Adventures of Young Buffalo Bill; In the Stone Circle, Balto and The Great Race, The Top Job, What Do You Dream, Spin the Bottle, Glamsters, Mary Ingalls on Her Own, Suddenly Supernatural series, Lily B series, My Penguin Osbert series and more.

Kimmel was born in New York City and grew up in Westchester County, as well as in Brussels, Belgium.  She attended the Emma Willard School, Troy, New York, and Kenyon College, Gambier, Ohio. She  currently lives in the Hudson Valley area of New York with her husband, daughter, Emma, and beagle.

Kimmels visit is funded through a federal grant.

The trio of Reuben Morgan, Landon Carter and Grant Williams look directly forward as they listen to the visiting author.
