Local Veterans to be Celebrated at Cedarville University

Cedarville University is holding its sixth annual Veterans Day ceremony at 10 a.m. on November 11.

Retired Army Air Corps Lt. Colonel James B. Cheney enlisted so he could serve his country. But it wasn’t until after he was captured during WWII that he realized what Nathan Hale meant when he said, “I regret that I have but one life to give for my country.”

In honor of the sacrifice and dedication given by men and women like Cheney, Cedarville University is holding its sixth annual Veterans Day ceremony at 10 a.m. on November 11. During the ceremony, Alex Mol, a senior chemistry education major at Cedarville, will share the story of Cheney’s time as a fighter pilot and POW.

“His story sounds like it’s straight from a Hollywood script,” says Matthew Moore, associate professor of communication arts at Cedarville who worked with the planning committee. “But his service, his sacrifice and his patriotism are all very real. He loves this country, and you will love his story.”

The ceremony will also feature musical performances by the University’s Men’s Glee Club, the symphonic band, and Beth Porter, associate professor of music. Michael P. DiCuirci, professor of instrumental music, will direct the ceremony.
The public is invited, and all military personnel are encouraged to attend in uniform.
