The groundbreaking play, which starred Sidney Poitier and Ruby Dee on Broadway in 1959, revolves around divergent dreams and conflicts within the three generations of the Younger family.  When her deceased husband’s insurance money comes though, Mama dreams moving to a new home in a better Chicago neighborhood.  Walter Lee has plans to buy a liquor store and become his own boss.   Sacrifice, trust and love among the Younger family and their heroic struggle to retain dignity in a harsh and changing world is a searing and timeless document of hope and inspiration. 

Needed:  3 adult women, 6 adult men, 1 boy age 11-14

Auditions are cold readings, no preparation required.

When Peggy, a good Christian woman, hits her head on the sink and bleeds to death after tripping over her lover’s wooden legs in a motel room, chaos erupts in Winters, Texas.  Nominated for over thirty awards and winner of 14 DramaLogue Awards, including Best Production, Shores’ colorful eccentricities are dead on, teetering on a Bowie’s knife edge between the hilariously improbable and the achingly real.
