Greene Memorial Hospital Receives Chest Pain Center Accreditation
Greene Memorial Hospital recently became an accredited Chest Pain Center. The hospital received notice of the three-year accreditation from the Society of Chest Pain Centers.
This accreditation designates that the Greene Memorial Hospital’s Level III trauma center has demonstrated its expertise and commitment to quality cardiac patient care by meeting or exceeding a wide set of stringent criteria. The hospital underwent an extensive on-site review and evaluation before receiving the accreditation.
“With this accreditation, the Society of Chest Pain Centers recognizes Greene Memorial Hospital’s commitment to providing excellent cardiac care for the people of Greene County,” said Marcia Maurer, Emergency Trauma Center director. “Residents of Xenia and the surrounding communities can feel confident that when they visit the GMH Emergency Trauma Center with chest pain they will receive the highest quality of care.”
Now all the hospitals in the Kettering Health Network are accredited Chest Pain Centers. Greene Memorial Hospital joins the previously accredited Kettering Medical Center, Grandview Medical Center, Sycamore Medical Center and Southview Medical Center.
More than five million Americans visit hospitals each year with chest pain. The goal of the Society of Chest Pain Centers is to significantly reduce the mortality rate of these patients by teaching the public to recognize and react to the early symptoms of a possible heart attack, reduce the time that it takes to receive treatment, and increase the accuracy and effectiveness of treatment. The Society’s accreditation process insures centers meet or exceed quality-of-care measures in acute cardiac medicine.
Greene Memorial Hospital demonstrated expertise in these key areas before receiving the accreditation:
- Integrating the emergency department with the local emergency medical system
- Assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients quickly
- Effectively treating patients with low risk for acute coronary syndrome and no assignable cause for their symptoms
- Continually seeking to improve processes and procedures
- Ensuring Chest Pain Center personnel competency and training
- Maintaining organizational structure and commitment
- Having a functional design that promotes optimal patient care
- Supporting community outreach programs that educate the public to promptly seek medical care if they display symptoms of a possible heart attack
