Dr. Austria and Brilliant Smiles, Provide Day of Smiling

The dental office of Dr. Gregory Austria and the Brilliant Smiles team opened their doors to 35 children from the Xenia School System for free dental care in the annual Give Kids a Smile Program on May 1,2009. The students were provided transportation by Xenia Community Schools. Give Kids a Smile is a national program that provides the children of low income families the opportunity to receive preventative dental care and emergency and restorative treatment. Every child who participated received an exam, cleaning, fluoride treatment, and oral hygiene instructions.  Additionally, many of the students received dental sealants, fillings, and emergency care.

Joining Dr. Austria at his Xenia office were Dr. Scott Phillippi, Dr. Tammy M. Baker, Dr. Chonda Higgins, and over 10 hygienists, assistants, and administrators from the Brilliant Smiles offices.

“It is very rewarding to see the smiles we put on these children’s faces while they are at our office,” Dr. Austria said. “I am also very proud of the doctors and staff personnel from Brilliant Smiles who gave up their day off to volunteer for this event.  We all recognize how nice it is to give back to our community, especially when many of the kids told me they had never been to a dentist before.”  Almost $6,000 worth of dental procedures was provided to these students.

In addition, “this special day would not have been possible without the help of Dr. Jeff Lewis, Superintendent of Xenia Schools, who provided the transportation, and Judy Ganguli, school nurse, who organized the paperwork  and supervised the students."
